Remai Modern is a thought leader and direction-setting modern art gallery that boldly collects, develops, presents and interprets the art of our time. Our mandate is to enable transformative experiences by connecting art with local and global communities.
Remai Modern is a visionary new art museum due to open to the public in 2017.
The building is designed by renowned Canadian architects KPMB, with the celebrated Bruce Kuwabara as the lead architect. The design received an Award of Excellence from Canadian Architect magazine in 2012, before construction began. As Kuwabara describes it, the L-shaped building, connected to Persephone Theatre, takes some inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s modernist masterpiece, Fallingwater (1935). Like it, there are cantilevered sections making the most of the site. The many galleries of varying sizes allow for a direct and intimate experience with art.
The site is on the banks of the beautiful South Saskatchewan River at River Landing in the heart of Saskatoon. Remai Modern is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of Picasso linocuts and will offer transformative art experiences and innovative programming.
Our pre-launch programming, initiated in June 2015, serves as both an indicator and incubator for ideas and approaches that will inform future programs. The diverse and lively programs are designed to connect local and global communities.
