How to Live

Artful Reading

Sarah Bakewell’s award-winning biography of Renaissance writer Michel Eyquem de Monatigne asks the question: how do you live? The nobleman and public official wrote groundbreaking essays that explored his thoughts and experiences, from childhood memories to the way his dog’s ears twitched. Bakewell’s biography follows de Monatique’s upbringing, career, travels, friendships and bizarre adventures.
