The Art of Rivalry: Four Friendships, Betrayals, and Breakthroughs in Modern Art

Artful Readings

Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic Sebastian Smee tells a fascinating story about four pairs of artists—Manet and Dégas, Picasso and Matisse, Pollock and de Kooning, Freud and Bacon—whose fraught and competitive friendships spurred them to new creative heights. This event is hosted by Levi Nicholat, a Saskatoon artist and co-owner of The GALLERY / art placement inc.

About the talk

Remai Modern’s book discussion program brings together two things we love: great art and literature! The program meets the second Tuesday of every month to discuss selected readings over light refreshments with an interesting host, while exploring connections between the book and the artworks on view in the galleries. Space is limited and registration is required, $5 with membership or admission. To register email cwylie@remaimodern.org
