Core Function
Under the supervision of the Director of Development this position is responsible for obtaining philanthropic support from donors and prospects in the form of donations, grants and sponsorships, annual giving and planned giving that support the Museum’s initiatives and campaigns.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Identifies, solicits, and stewards funding requests as assigned.
- Identifies and cultivates relationships with potential and current donors, supporters and sponsors and ensures ongoing stewardship with existing partners.
- Prepares proposals and funding requests; solicits and secures funding for programs, exhibitions, general operations and special projects.
- Coordinates appeals, special events, and communications to maximize philanthropic support from the community.
- Develops and coordinates the planned giving program.
- Responds to inquiries related to donations, grants and sponsorship, including monthly, annual and planned giving.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure that commitments to funders are appropriately executed, recognized, promoted and reported-on to meet the targets of the development plan and funder expectations.
- Prepares donor listings, year-end reports, proposals, internal and external communications, and correspondence.
- Assists with departmental activities, as requested.
- Attends programs, exhibitions and events, as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree in related discipline such as business, or communications, fine arts or commerce.
- Four years’ related experience in sales or fundraising
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Possession of Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred; partial and ongoing completion of the designation will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports and documentation of a specialized, confidential nature.
- Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive information, exercising sound judgement to make decisions in complex and confidential situations, behaving at all times with tact, integrity and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with co-workers, board members, donors and the public.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
- Proficient skill in the use of a computer with Microsoft Office, and fundraising/CRM software (such as Raiser’s Edge)
