CORE FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, this position implements and delivers Learning & Engagement programs with specific emphasis on Indigenous art and culture.

SCOPE & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Delivers guided tours, workshops and other activities developed for school, studio and community audiences with particular emphasis on Indigenous art and culture.
  2. Assists with ongoing program development, establishing learning objectives, and advancing Indigenous education and program content in all Learning & Engagement activities.
  3. Communicates with teachers and community partners to convey and customize program plans.
  4. Provides exhibition interpretation for visitors and information about the museum and programs.
  5. Monitors artwork in galleries ensuring established security and safety protocols are upheld and assists with incident reports and emergency procedures.
  6. Conducts research on the exhibitions and the collection.
  7. Provides statistical data and prepares evaluative reports and written materials to support program delivery and marketing.
  8. Assists with orienting new staff.
  9. Assists with ordering program supplies and with maintaining the studio.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge of art history, art education, studio art and culturally appropriate approaches to educating and programming with Indigenous content.
  • Knowledge of current practices in contemporary art and museum education.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver art and education programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in a variety of art media.
  • Demonstrated creative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of two years of post-secondary education toward a degree in a related field.
  • One-year related experience in in art, education or community programming.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid first aid/CPR certificate, training provided upon hire.

WEEKLY HOURS: 36.67 – Evening and weekend work may be required
