This community screening is in partnership with SOS Trees Coalition, an organization committed to protecting the green infrastructure of the urban forest. They educate folks on how the trees that grow within the city are interconnected networks that provide a much-needed ecosystem service to human populations. There are social, psychological, recreational and economic benefits to urban forests, not to mention carbon sequestration, reduction of the heat island effect, air filtration (pollution reduction), and improved aesthetics. Through educational activities, SOS Trees Coalition promotes public understanding and appreciation of the urban forest.
Guest speaker Kelly Tolley with her traditional knowledge will be talking about an Indigenous perspective on using trees for food, shelter and well being. She will also share information about an exciting birch bark canoe project that will take place at Remai Modern this year.
This screening is free and open to the public.
