National Aboriginal Veterans Day Film Screening: Cree Code Talker
This screening of Cree Code Talker is presented in honour of National Aboriginal Veterans Day and is free and open to the public.
Friday, November 8, screening of Cree Code Talker throughout the day from 10AM-6PM
The short documentary Cree Code Talker reveals the role of Canadian Métis Cree code talker Charles ‘Checker’ Tomkins during the Second World War. Digging deep into the US archives, it depicts the true story of Charles’ involvement with the US Air Force and the development of the code talkers communication system, which was used to transmit crucial military communications using the Cree language as a vital secret weapon in combat. The code talkers took their oath of secrecy seriously and for almost the rest of his life, Tompkins never told of his work, not even to his family.
