Remai Modern Announces 2020 Board Chair

SASKATOON, CANADA — The Board of Remai Modern is pleased to announce that Doug Matheson has been elected Chair of the museum’s Board of Directors and Dr. Grant Stoneham has been elected Vice-Chair. Doug succeeds Beau Atkins who has served as Interim Board Chair over the last year.

“It has been an honour to serve as board Chair over the last year, and I am confident in our future and in Mr. Matheson’s strong commitment to the Museum. Doug is a recognized community leader whose guidance will help Remai Modern continue to grow towards its full potential. I will be leaving the board following the AGM to focus on my business and personal life, but I will remain closely connected to the museum. Having access to this world-class museum enriches our community and the lives of visitors.”

Doug Matheson is Branch Manager, Vice President at RBC Dominion Securities in Saskatoon and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. RBC has been a long-time supporter of Remai Modern and its predecessor, the Mendel Art Gallery. Doug joined Remai Modern’s Board in 2019.

“I am honoured and delighted to have the opportunity to lead our committed Board of Directors and to work closely with Remai Modern’s senior leadership as we continue to grow the museum. One of the more significant tasks on the horizon is the selection and transition to a new Executive Director later this year. I would like to thank Beau Atkins for his leadership as interim Board Chair during a very busy transition period.”
